Outdoor (or appropriately spaced) dining

Southern Africa’s wide-open spaces, unique landscapes and vast terrains combine to create the perfect setting for outdoor, healthy holidays. And that applies to the dining too. Game lodges and safari destinations offer spectacular outdoor dining setups and within cities, the regions have implemented stringent and considerate health and safety protocols. You’ll never feel overcrowded or cramped. Together with the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Global Safety Stamp of Approval, guests have the added reassurance that their stay will be nothing short of breathtaking while their health and safety is considered paramount at every touchpoint.

Even before Covid-19, properties in South and Southern Africa were crafting private, intimate experience for guests. Their beautiful settings allow for the creation of breathtaking experiences, including dining.

Sindabezi Island

Sindabezi Island is unique – the discerning traveller’s best kept secret. An idyllic, exclusive camp on their very own private isle on the Zambezi River, it is the only luxury bush camp from where Victoria Falls can comfortably be explored. Experience the large number of activities in the area during the day and return to a tranquil haven, a thousand light years away from the bustle at night. Fodor’s consider Sindabezi one of the top 10 eco lodges in Africa.

There are only five open-sided thatched Chalets on the entire island, allowing guests to soak up the sights and sounds of a pristine African bush setting. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience.

With just five chalets on the entire island allowing for a maximum of just ten guests, private dining takes on a new meaning. Guests can choose between a hosted meal shared with other island goers or a private table set up in or near their chalet. Imagine sinking your bare toes into white Sindabezi sand under the dining table… There is no electricity on the island and hot water is provided on demand so dinner is served by lantern and candlelight on a sandbank or wooden deck under the stars.
