We’re diving deep to get the lowdown on one of the ‘scarier’ and largest predators on our planet…. the Great White Shark.
Also known as the great white, white shark or white pointer, the Great White Shark is a species of large mackerel shark. Its most notable for its impressive and imposing size with some growing to as much as 6 metres in length?! To put that into perspective, a giraffe may grow to be approximately 6 metres in height!
This impressive marine monster has 300 sharp, triangular teeth arranged in up to seven rows and their streamlined shape and tails can propel them through the water at speeds of over 60 kilometres per hour.
Contrary to popular belief, the human is not on their list of preferred fine dining. Rather, researchers believe that the occasional nibble (there are approximately 5 to 10 attacks throughout the world annually) is largely due to curiosity. Their preferred diet consists of fish, rays, sea lions, seals and small whales.
Keen to see them up close and personal either above or under water….but from the safety of a boat or cage?
