Noordhoek is situated below the Southern Slopes of Chapman’s Peak Drive and is popular with walkers and horseback riders.  It is famed for its long white sandy beach, ideal for horse riding on the beach for a close up nature experience.

Experience breathtaking views of Chapman’s Peak and Noordhoek Beach as you pass through wetlands with indigenous bird life, then over the dunes and onto the beach where you can visit the Kakapo Shipwreck.

The SS Kakopo, a 665 ton steamship, was on her way to Sydney from the United Kingdom with a cargo of coal when she ran aground on the Cape of Storms on 25 May 1900.  Mistaking Chapman’s Peak for Cape Point due to treacherous weather, the ship ended up on the beach and while no crew were lost, all efforts to get her back into the water failed.  Today the boiler, rudders and ribs can still be seen sticking out of the sand.
